Zee van Gils Resin artist Cornwall

Q

What is resin art and how do you make it?

A

Zee uses top quality inks and pigments in 5-10 layers of resin to create mesmerising depth and details within the textures. A clear coat gives it that glass-like luxurious finish. The epoxy resin Zee uses is a non-toxic two-part liquid that turns into a shiny hard surface once cured. The resin contains HALS: Hindered Amine Light Stabilisers to prevent the artwork from yellowing over time. Want some visuals of the process? Take a look into the studio.

Q

How long does it take to make an artwork?

A

Depending on the size of the artwork and her schedule, Zee's art process takes roughly 3-8 weeks from start to finish.

Shipping can take 1-2 weeks depending on your location.

Q

Do you ship worldwide & is it safe to ship resin art?

A

Yes, Zee ships her art all over the world and her work has found homes in 22 countries so far. She spends a lot of time properly packaging her work and has not had any issues with damage or parcels getting lost even when shipping to Hawaii, Singapore, Japan and remote mountain villages in the French Alps.

Q

Can I pay in instalments?

A

Yes, you can make an interest-free payment plan of your choice by using PayPal Later at the checkout.

For bespoke order payment plans, please contact Zee.

Q

How does the custom order process work?

A

You can simply email Zee to request a price list. After you've decided which shape and dimensions suit your budget, you can tell her what your favourite pieces are or send reference images. You can even send a photo of your space to ask for advice, and Zee can photoshop one of her artworks into your room so you can see what it would look like.

Zee will then request a 50% deposit before she starts creating. Throughout the process she will send photos and videos, and then the final artwork photos for your approval. Once approved, she will request the remaining 50% + shipping costs, before sending your artwork.

Q

How should I look after my artwork?

A

For best resin art aftercare, please do not display your painting in full sunlight (as with any artwork or photos). Do not hang it in a humid space such as the bathroom, because the wooden panel -although it is warp free- will not be happy.

To remove fingerprints and dust, use a clean (!) microfibre cloth and a bit of glass spray to gently wipe/buff the surface.

If you have to store or ship your artwork to a new home, please ask Zee for advice.

Q

Can I visit your studio?

A

Yes! As the studio is in a private garden, contact Zee to plan a visit.
