NEW ARTWORKS! LOW TIDE & ROCK POOLS

After weeks of collecting inspiration at the beach, lots of experimentation, trial and error, I am so excited to share with you these nine new abstract paintings.

As I mentioned in my preview blog for this series; experimental phases are slow, exciting, humbling, pretty expensive and frustrating at times! I felt like since I started using resin years ago, through thousands of hours of practice, I've kind of 'mastered' it in the way I want to use it. So after my winter getaway to Indonesia, I had this natural urge to add some new ingredients into the mix and challenge myself. These nine pieces are the ones that made the cut from the studies. Made of inks on paper, mounted onto aluminium panels with my signature layered resin details and glass-like finish; there is no compromise in details and depth here. I am in love with the subtle and soft ink blends, delicate gold details and neutral colours like slate blue/grey, light khaki green and sandy tones. Instead of taping the edges like I usually do, I've had to seal in the paper on the aluminium so I've let the resin drip over the edges and around the back, where they've cured into perfect little drips. I am kind of obsessed with this contrast of the perfect finish of the clear coat vs. the drips on the back. They are little reminders of the messy process itself.

Fun fact: these new pieces are not made on wooden panels, meaning they can be displayed in a humid space like the bathroom! The artworks are ready to display upon delivery. Framing for the rectangular pieces are available at an extra cost - please get in touch to discuss options and pricing.

I've been sharing some of the inspiration behind them on my Instagram, showing glimpses of my favourite local spot, Whipsiderry Beach. I feel incredibly lucky to have this surf spot so close to home. We come here to surf with friends and seals, have beach BBQs, take long dog walks and cave dips. At Whipsy, there is simultaneously the absence of time and the urge to enjoy it while it lasts, as there is always the danger of getting cut off by the incoming tide. I can spend hours walking around the low tide rock pools, searching for satisfying patterns and textures in the sand and cliffs - until a storm shifts the sand and creates all these new natural gems. I never get over the perfection of these natural works of art. The muted colours with hints of bright green seaweed dancing underwater like wavy hair, and the tropical turquoise water - no matter how cold, when the sun is out.
